Living Love-eeta

Love is a strange thing. It seems that when the characters in a novel love someone, it's with all their hearts, and they tend to shy away from it in the beginning. Let's face it, love can hurt, and placing yourself in a position to be open to it isn't easy!
When giving your heart to others, there are no bounds. You can't tell how deeply you'll love a person when you open your feelings to them. The worst one is unrequited love. Imagine, if you will, loving someone who doesn't, or can't, return the feelings. That leaves you open to pain.
When someone loves you though, and you don't offer your heart to them, the relationship can be rocky, at best. What is it that allows both parties to share a sentiment? Is it something that binds you both, that nothing can put asunder, or is it the rock which the heart sits on?
Chemistry not only happens in a lab. The love of two people who share that magnetic attraction can be blissful, or painful. Does it truly affect your life if you love a person who shares the sentiment? I think so. Being alone can be heartbreaking, yet sharing your heart with another can uplift your spirit, or take you down.
Two things that can bring lovers together, or rip them apart, are trust and loyalty. Without these two precious elements, love stinks. What would happen in your stories if your characters loved each other, yet didn't have the two things that can cement a relationship? I think that without them, you chance heartbreak.
Why stay together if your heart just isn't in it? Especially having children in the mix, loving others who hurt you emotionally or physically is a terrible way to live. Some people stay together 'for the children', yet I've known many people who've suffered even more when living with someone who can't, or won't, share their heart. The children hurt the worst in the deal.
My characters tend to revel in their shared emotions, but not until they've been through the ringer with someone who wasn't the right person. You and you alone know in your heart if the senses are shared. Let your heart open when you trust and respect a person, and you could find true bliss. That's not saying that every day is a fountain of bliss, but allowing yourself to share in this essential element can make your life worth living.
Do you share a relationship equally? Staying together when you're missing the most important emotions in life just isn't worth it. Love with all your heart, and you'll learn to trust and share in a blissful union. Best wishes for that.

Ryland Sanders is a feisty, no-nonsense cop who protects her heart with her smart mouth. She has no friends, and every partner she's ever had gave up on her long ago. When paired with a new cop, Ry pulls out all stops to get rid of him.
Kane Nanuq is from the Northwest Territories on Baffin Island. He's tracking a serial killer who murdered his wife and children. When he meets Ry, his carefully planned revenge is altered. She wants to become bait, but Kane wants to protect her. She cracks open his carefully guarded heart, even as she loses hers.
The duo work together to capture the man, but neither of them realize they've lost their hearts to each other until it's too late...

EXCERPT
As a detective, she didn't wear a uniform. The form-fitting black pants gave the impression of a narrow waist, while the tucked in t-shirt clung to her shapely body perfectly. The leather holster and gun strapped tight around her chest accentuated her breasts. He noticed that she hunched her shoulders forward slightly in an attempt to conceal them. Since she came up to his shoulder in height, he figured she stood approximately five feet, nine inches tall.
Acting as though she noticed him for the first time, she turned to face him, her eyes widening slightly. He could still see the anger burning in them, and waited patiently for her to vent. She surprised him when she spoke to him with the patience of a kindergarten teacher, talking to children. The sarcasm only showed in her simmering gaze.
"The box in front of you is called a computer. I doubt you have them at the North Pole, but here we use them to document our cases. Perhaps you'd prefer to use the drawing board. We have some pretty colored markers there. Do you have any questions, Nanuq?"
Studying her in silence for a long moment, he finally nodded. "First of all, are you this rude to everyone you meet, or did you save it up for me? Send a detailed list of every scrap of about the case to my inbox. I trust my email account is already set up?"
She seemed surprised when he remained calm and casual about her behavior. When her lips curved upwards, he knew her grin was a fake.
"I already sent you the information before you came in here," she said with a purr, turning back to her computer.
Logging onto his computer, he opened his email account, and saw that she'd told the truth. Opening one file after the other, he read them quickly until he came to the final message. Oh, are you still here, Detective? Her sour attitude would have been enough to send anyone into a rage, but he simply emailed her back.
Enough fooling around, Detective. Let's get some work done.
Pushing the send button, he waited a moment until he saw she'd opened the email. When her gaze flew over to meet his, she appeared to be ready for a battle. She seemed disappointed when he looked away, and became engrossed in his work.
The battle lines had been drawn.

Franny Armstrong Bio
Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighborhood children, charging them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.
Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she can function fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her and still is.
Franny loves to write about rainforests and Caribbean islands rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humor.

Deena Remiel, The Brethren Series, and New Covers...Oh My!!

I had the privilege of meeting author Deena Remiel a year ago when I attended the Buildin' the Dream/Arizona Dreamin' Conventions. It was clear very early on that she is more than a fantastic author. She leads workshops, heads committees, spearheads the Realizing Your Dreams Convention. If that isn't enough, she's smart and witty, friendly, and helpful.

Today, I'm featuring her Brethren Series because she's just released the new cover designs for the books. Take a look and let me know what you think.

TRINITY

Hannah Livingston has the most infamous stalker that ever existed- Satan. She spent her sixth birthday with the Brethren, fighting an apocalyptic war that sent the Dark Prince back to Hell, and the rest of her life wondering if he’d be back for her soul someday. She needn’t wonder any longer.

Gabriel Seeker, Brethren Protector, spends his days and nights rescuing kids from sex traffickers and protecting their lives from further damage. He knows all too well the nightmarish world they’ve been stolen into, and it’s gotten harder to keep secret his own past horrors.

Hannah and Gabriel have always gotten along, first as friends, then as co-workers. She manages his life and he protects hers. A perfect, symbiotic relationship, so it would seem, until suppressed feelings for each other surface and forever change the landscape of their lives. Stricken with PTSD, the determined angel seeks to protect the woman he loves from Satan’s greedy and insidious clutches.

Deceit and seduction, desire and repression, collide in this epic, immortal story of love, duty, and sacrifice.

RELIC

Raphael, a Brethren Savior, an angel with a forgotten past, has lost his power to heal and is on a self-imposed guilt trip to get it back. If he can’t, his tour of eternal duty as Brethren Savior will be revoked. On his journey, he winds up enmeshed in a web of attempted murder and resurrection, all thanks to a woman he’s only seen in a photograph and by chance on an Arizona desert hiking trail.

Serena Sikes is a wanted woman. Desired by “undesirables” for a gift her brother gave her—a stolen relic with suspected healing powers. Hunted down in the Arizona desert and left for dead, she is found by none other than the angel who cannot heal.

Raphael and Serena are inexorably bound together, for locked deep within the relic’s heart had lived the soul of his long lost wife. Now, it resides inside Serena. Evil lurks around every corner as Raphael tries to keep both Serena and his dead wife’s soul alive and lustful temptation at bay.

Three souls bound together by an ancient relic, a timeless gift, and a love that is eternal.

ELIXXIR

Callie has secrets, too many to count.

For twenty years she’s been living a lie as Callie Worthington, hiding from the monsters who brutally murdered her parents for possession of the Elixxir of Life. Unsuccessful before, their killers have found her and will stop at nothing to acquire the Elixxir. And see her dead.

Nathanael has a couple of secrets, too. A nasty one in particular blurs the line separating Good from Evil. As an immortal Brethren Warrior, though, he must retrieve the Elixxir before it falls into the wrong hands. Just how he’s going to get it out of Callie’s is the big question.

Tempers flare as Callie and Nathanael reach out to each other with their own hidden agendas. She needs his protection. He needs the Elixxir. Will their fiery passion lead to lasting love, or will their web of intrigue ultimately destroy them both?

Secrets, lies, and love’s loyalties tested. What price for immortality? What price for love?

ANGEL RISING

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MEET DEENA REMIELAAD DEBUT AUTHOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE

My name is Deena Remiel, and I am an author of paranormal romance, urban and dark fantasy, and romantic suspense. I also teach language arts to middle schoolers. I belong to RWA national and the Desert Rose Chapter of RWA, where there are outstanding people writing fabulous stories.

I grew up in Philadelphia, home of the most amazing cheese steaks, soft pretzels, oh and the Liberty Bell. My husband and I began our own family in New Jersey, and just a few years ago, Arizona called to my spirit and tempted my husband with much better weather! We moved our family, and the rest is history, or the present, as the case may be!

These are a few of my favorite things: writing and reading of course, chocolate, music with lyrics or melodies that speak to me, soaking baths, singing in the shower, dancing with my buds, romantic dancing with my hubbie, scrapbooking, watching my girls enjoy what they love to do, and laughing at jokes.
